Culture – Prologue

Welcome back, reader. It’s been a long while, so thank you for your patience! It took me a VERY long time to build up the emotional and mental strength to write this next series of articles.

I also had a bit of “writer’s block”, since I had so many random notes scattered all over the place, and it got kinda crazy trying to organize my thoughts.

In the next few articles, I’ll be covering the following cultural topics:

Biases and Perceptions

I’ll explain how the “Law Of Attraction” is (basically) nonsense. That is, in this context, how a person can be accepted or rejected by others, based NOT on anything the person does or says, but based on human biases and perceptions of OTHER people.

Other Travel Blogs and Videos

I’ll tell you how most of these sites and videos don’t tell the full story, choosing instead to focus on and overly cheerful, whitewashed, privileged Caucasian perspective… or the horny “Passport Bro” perspective… for sake of views and clicks.

Decriminalization of Sex Work

I’ll tell you why I strongly believe that sex work should be GLOBALLY decriminalized, taxed, and regulated just like any other industry. You’ll read about the many social benefits that said decriminalization would bring, especially to North America.

Classism and Colorism

I’ll explain to you how deep and systemic classism, colorism, and discrimination in Colombia affects almost everything, including jobs, entertainment, advertising, social spaces, and relationships (that is, encompassing friendships, dating, mating, and reproduction). This issue will be mentioned frequently in the other topics as well.

LDFG Culture

I’ll explain what this “Liars, Deceivers, Flakes, and Ghosts” stuff is, and how that is an inextricable part of the Colombian culture. I’ll explain how every smart visitor or expat should be aware of this, adjust their expectations, and adapt to it.

Friendships, Dating, Mating, and Reproduction

I’ll explain – with a few personal stories combined with a few anecdotes – how this country is NOT a good place in which to form legitimate or healthy relationships. I’ll also provide grounded and realistic advice, hints, and tips for “online dating” when dealing with Colombianas.

Advantages of Colombia

I’ll end the series on a positive note, listing all the great things about Colombia, and how you can take full advantage of them.

So, check back soon for updates. I promise you’re find the next series of articles VERY eye-opening and useful. Cheers!
